Renting a Unit

How do I rent a unit?2026-03-17T22:09:23+00:00

The easiest way is to call us at (281) 688-1450 during office hours (Mon–Fri 10AM–7PM) and we’ll get you set up same day. You can also stop by either location in person. We’ll confirm availability, collect your info, and get you access to your unit right away.

What do I need to bring to rent a unit?2026-03-17T22:14:32+00:00

You’ll need a valid photo ID (driver’s license or state ID), a current mailing address, a phone number, and a payment method (credit card, debit card, or check). That’s it — no complicated paperwork.

Is there a long-term commitment or contract?2026-03-17T22:15:01+00:00

No. All rentals are month-to-month. You’re never locked into a long-term lease. Stay as long as you need and move out when you’re done — just give us advance notice before your next billing date.

How do I choose the right unit size?2026-03-17T22:15:30+00:00

A good rule of thumb: a 5Ă—10 fits a studio apartment or packed closet; a 10Ă—10 fits a 1–2 bedroom home (our most popular size); a 10Ă—22 fits a 3+ bedroom home or a vehicle and belongings combined. Not sure? Call us — we’re happy to help you pick the right size so you don’t pay for more than you need.

Can I transfer to a different unit size later?2026-03-17T22:15:55+00:00

Yes — if your storage needs change, give us a call and we’ll do our best to move you to a different size based on availability. Transfers are handled on a case-by-case basis.

Pricing & Payment

What are your prices?2026-03-17T22:17:03+00:00

Units start at $49/month at our 5th Street location and $50/month at Sargent Drive. Prices go up to $110/month for our largest indoor units, and $75/month for outdoor parking. See the full pricing page for every size and rate.

When is rent due and how do I pay?2026-03-31T15:04:33+00:00

Rent is due monthly. We accept credit cards, debit cards, and checks. You can pay by phone during office hours or online. Our 5th Street location also supports online bill pay through your tenant account.

Is there a deposit?2026-03-17T22:17:59+00:00

Call us to confirm current deposit requirements — this can vary. Typically there is no large upfront deposit, just your first month’s rent.

What happens if I pay late?2026-03-17T22:18:20+00:00

Late payments may result in a late fee and, if unpaid for an extended period, restricted access to your unit. We encourage you to contact us as soon as possible if you’re having trouble making a payment — we’re reasonable people and prefer to work things out.

How do I cancel my unit?2026-03-17T22:18:42+00:00

Just give us a call at (281) 688-1450 or stop by during office hours. Remove all belongings, leave the unit clean, and return your lock. We ask for advance notice before your next billing date to avoid being charged for the following month.

Access & Hours

What are your gate access hours?2026-03-17T22:19:07+00:00

Gate access is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at both locations. You’ll receive a personal gate code when you move in — no need to call ahead or schedule a visit.

What are your office hours?2026-03-17T22:19:28+00:00

Office hours are Monday through Friday, 10AM–7PM. We’re closed on weekends, but the gate remains accessible 24/7 so you can always get to your unit.

How do I access my unit?2026-03-17T22:19:49+00:00

You’ll use a personal gate code to enter the facility. Your unit is secured with your own lock — we recommend a quality disc lock or padlock. Drive directly up to your unit for easy loading and unloading.

Do you provide locks?2026-03-17T22:20:12+00:00

You are responsible for providing your own lock. We recommend a heavy-duty disc lock or a quality padlock for best security. These are available at most hardware stores.

Security

How secure are your facilities?2026-03-17T22:20:41+00:00

Both locations have 24-hour digital video surveillance covering the property. Our Sargent Drive facility is fully fenced with electronic gate access and perimeter fencing across 1.3 acres. We take security seriously — your belongings are monitored around the clock.

Do I need insurance for my stored items?2026-03-17T22:21:03+00:00

We strongly recommend insuring your stored items. Check your existing homeowner’s or renter’s insurance policy first — many policies extend coverage to items stored off-site. If not, tenant protection plans are available. Ask us about options when you move in. CoastGuard Storage is not liable for loss or damage to stored property.

What items are not allowed in storage?2026-03-17T22:21:25+00:00

The following are not permitted in any unit: flammable or explosive materials, hazardous chemicals, perishable food, living plants or animals, illegal items, or anything that produces odors. All stored items must be legally owned by the renter. If you’re unsure about a specific item, call us before moving in.

Are units climate controlled?2026-03-17T22:21:46+00:00

At this time, all units at both locations are non-climate controlled. If you’re storing temperature-sensitive items like electronics, artwork, or delicate furniture, we recommend using sealed plastic bins and moisture-absorbing products. Bay City summers can be hot and humid, so plan accordingly.

RV & Vehicle Parking

Do you offer RV and boat parking?2026-03-17T22:22:14+00:00

Yes — outdoor RV, boat, trailer, and vehicle parking is available at our Sargent Drive location. Spaces are 12×30 on a stabilized crushed concrete surface, at $75/month. The lot is fully fenced, gated, and monitored by 24-hour surveillance.

What size vehicles can you accommodate?2026-03-17T22:22:36+00:00

Our 12Ă—30 parking spaces accommodate most RVs, motorhomes, travel trailers, boats on trailers, and oversized vehicles. If you have a particularly large rig, call us at (281) 688-1450 to confirm fit before reserving.

Is RV parking available at the 5th Street location?2026-03-17T22:22:58+00:00

No — RV and vehicle parking is only available at Sargent Drive (4205 Sargent Dr). The 5th Street location offers indoor storage units only.

Can I store a non-running vehicle?2026-03-17T22:23:21+00:00

Call us to discuss your specific situation. Generally, vehicles stored on the property must have current registration. We’ll want to confirm details before accepting a non-operational vehicle.

Moving & Storage Tips

How should I pack my unit?2026-03-17T22:23:43+00:00

Pack heavy items on the bottom, lighter items on top. Use uniform box sizes so stacks are stable. Leave a center aisle so you can reach items in the back without unloading everything. Label every box on the side (not the top) so labels are visible when stacked. Disassemble large furniture to save space.

How do I protect my belongings from heat and humidity?2026-03-17T22:24:07+00:00

Since our units are non-climate controlled, use sealed plastic bins instead of cardboard where possible — they’re sturdier and moisture-resistant. Add silica gel packs or DampRid for humidity. Wrap furniture in moving blankets. Avoid storing anything irreplaceable that’s sensitive to heat, like vinyl records, candles, or certain electronics long-term.

What’s the best way to store furniture?2026-03-17T22:24:30+00:00

Disassemble what you can (bed frames, shelves, table legs). Stand mattresses upright against a wall or use a mattress bag. Cover sofas and upholstered furniture with moving blankets or furniture covers. Elevate items off the floor on pallets or boards if possible to protect against any moisture on the ground.

Can I access my unit anytime to add or remove items?2026-03-17T22:24:52+00:00

Yes — gate access is 24/7. Come and go as often as you like. Your gate code gives you full access any time of day or night.
